$19.99 $27.00

"Koinobori", or carp windsocks have been used to decorate "Childrens Day" for 700 years. The carp is the chosen animal because the Japanese consider it the most spirited fish, full of energy and power that it can fight its way up running streams and cascades. Its strength and determination overcomes all obstacles, became a symbol for courage and the ability to attain high goals.

Originally, the banners were used by samurai warriors on the battlefield. Some of them had carp pictures on them. Since the carp's courage and strength is a desired trait , families traditionally have flown koinobori from their homes to express the hope that their children will grow up with these traits.

Landscapes across Japan are decorated with koinobori from April to early May, in honor of children for a good future and in the hope that they will grow up healthy and strong.
